Automation: New features will automatically populate certain fields

Hello,

I am new to GIS and am working on making our work flow more efficient. At this point, we have 15 fields that need to be entered when we are creating new features in our GIS. I would like to try and automate some of this to make our workflow more streamlined.

For example:

We have 200 Grids in our GIS. I am creating a new hydrant in Grid 46N. Is it possible to have the Grid field be automatically populated with 46N upon creation of the hydrant? Then if I create another hydrant in 120N, the Grid field will be populated with 120N.

Also, is it possible to have a field be automatically populated using a concatenation of multiple fields?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
