In ArcCatalog, you can create a folder connection to an administrative file share. An administrative file share in windows would look something like this: \\servername\sharename$ (with the dollar sign)
The point of having an administrative share is so that users who find your server on the network don't see what shares are created on it.
The problem of having an administrative share is that in the ArcMap 10.0 Save Dialog, there is no option to type or paste in the URL of the administrative share. The Save dialog makes you browse to the location, which even if you browsed to the server, you wouldn't see the share name, because it's hidden.
I'd rather not map a drive letter to this share, for different reasons.
I solved this problem by creating a shortcut to the administrative share on my desktop (or you could create the shortcut anywhere you can browse to).
It would be nice if I create a folder connection in ArcCatalog, that the ArcMap Save dialog could somehow access those folder connections as a location to save.
