Hey guys,
I've been learning about georeferencing the last couple days and I can't seem to find a straightforward answer about projections with respect to georeferencing.
Does my un-georeferenced raster image need to have the same projection as the file I'm georeferencing it to, or should it match the coordinate system of the map as it exists on paper?
For example, I have an un-georeferenced JPG file for a USGS topo map that's projected in NAD 1927 UTM 17N on paper. However, the projection of the layer in which I want to georeference the topo map to is in NAD 1983 17N. Would I define the un-georeferenced file as the NAD 27 or NAD 83 projection?
Thanks for your help!
Nick
