Districting Add-In won't save plan

Playing around with the Texas tutorial in the Districting add-in. Everything works fine (except for some mystery 'unassigned' numbers), until I save everything and close Arc. When I re-open the map, both the counties layer supplied with the tutorial and the plan created have broken data sources. I get an error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' Well, I can see that. I can repair the counties, but can't get the plan back.

When I start editing it, I get 'Error in BackupPlan Table.' This has happened on three different plans in a row. Oddly, the Current Statistics numbers display. When I try to import the plan I get a dialog box that says' pFLPlanGeog Is Nothing True pFLSourceGeog Is Nothing True.' A pop up box saying 'Assigning Plan Districts..' appears, but just keeps rotating the magnifying glass around the globe.
Using 10.0 sp 5, applied the hotfix. Any clues on how to fix this? Thanks.
