Creating a relate to a table in MS SQL Server

Wondering if anyone can provide information on how to create a successful relate to a table or view in a non-spatial MS SQL table or view. It seems that the SQL table must contain an objectID field in order for arcgis to recognize and use the relate. It seems that most SQL tables do not contain an objectID field? Or at least the ones in our enterprise database do not. Is there a way to dynamically add an objectID field to a view?
