I am running ArcGIS desktop 10.0 with all patches applied.
It happens, randomly, that the styles disappear.
For instance, one clicks on the symbol in the table of contents,
click the "Fill Color" and instead of the predefined ESRI
default colors appearing one gets the "Color Selector"
dialogue. Going to "Customize => Styles" shows that there
are no styles.
This behavior will persist until the program is closed and then
reopened.
Sometimes the styles are missing on startup; sometimes they disappear
halfway through a session; sometimes everything is OK.
It is not much of an exaggeration to say that on almost every occasion
that I use this product some new, unexplained, and buggy
behavior occurs. Sometimes it hangs; sometimes a simple
click on a tool gives the rotating circle of bust forever;
sometimes they styles disappear; sometimes....
