Load data error message

I have been getting an error message that says:

"Could not load data from the data source. If you can correct the problem, press the refresh button to reload data. Possible problems can include bad network connection, invalid field, etc."

I first got this message when trying to load from a shapefile to a feature class. I have a shapefile that displays correctly. I try to load it into a feature class that I have in a database and this error pops up. I finally gave up and just copy/pasted the features from the shapefile to the feature class in the database. I edited everything that needed editing and populated every field that I needed. I ran a summary table on three separate feature classes and they looked just fine when I added them to the map and opened them up. I saved the map and called over a colleague of mine to take a look at the finished product with me and as soon as I tried to open the table again I got the same message from above. What gives?

- All is saved on a server for my place of work
