Use of GIS in Thailand

Hi,

I have recently moved to Thailand and plan to do some research here. I understand the basics and a little beyond of Arc and Q GIS but have only used it in the UK and I was hoping that someone may be able to give me some advice on how I should approach the use of GIS here if it is possible. I am really unsure where to start so any positive comments would be greatly appreciated.
