I have a building ID shape file that lists building numbers in a text field. Most are just numbers but some are alpha numeric. If I want to sort sequentially then I have to add leading zeros and sort ascending in order to get 1,2,3,etc instead of 1,10,11,12,etc. It's a pain but it works. I am creating a report that should list the building ID's in sequential order but I cannot get it to work. I add the building ID field with the leading zeros, sort ascending and I get exactly what I don't want....0001,00010,00011,00012,etc. I have tried all different ways. I sort before creating the report. I sort within the report itself. I still get the same results. Any ideas how I can create a report showing building ID's in sequential order?
This is being used for fire response so it's important that this report show buildings in correct order. I have another field that truncates all the leading zeros to be used as labels.
