Problem importing CSV data file

I have a bunch of CSV files that contain contour lines that are the result of some analyses I have done. Since there is no clear way to create a polyline shapefile from a given set of coordinates, I have taken to importing the data manually using the "Add XY Data" functionality from the "File" menu. The files are formatted as a simple CSV, with one header row, and the longitude and latitude values separated by a comma, The values are set to have 8 decimal places, as per the instructions on the ARCGIS help pages. However, when I use the dialogue, the X-Field and Y-Field boxes are empty. I've tried using different headers in the file (Longitude,Latitude), as well as having no header, but the results are the same. At first, I thought it might be an issue with the fact these CSV files were created while using Linux, but I changed the text format to DOS-style, and it makes no difference. I have attached a sample CSV file.

Also, if there is a way to do this using a batch conversion, it would be incredibly helpful.
